Nomad's Log

Do you know the difference between a nomad and a pilgrim?

A nomad does not have a permanent location; he or she travels from place to place, finding pasture here and there for their livestock. A pilgrim is a person searching for a sacred place to call home.

For us as believers, living on Earth, which person would we be? I know for me, it is work continuously shifting my mindset from thinking of this place like home and remembering heaven is our home. The Christian life is a journey; It is a marathon; it is a voyage to where we pass through the gates of death to be with the person we love.

Nomad’s Log is not about my perfect, holy journey to being with God. It is the bare bones of what I face in my daily life being a teacher, a high school educator, an amateur writer, a depressed, single broke twenty-something black woman still living at home with her parents.

Throughout the Nomad Log, you will read my fluctuating emotions, my impulsive and often defensive reactions, and my grumbling spirit.

Why? Nomad’s Log is important to me it is because it is me. The good, the bad, and all of the ugly. Nomad’s Log is important to me because writing is important to me. Words are important to me. As heavy as my depression I got, it was the Word of God, it was my ability to put words to my emotions that had me cope and propel out of the darkness.

I do not know if my posts will be inspiring or if my future will be successful, but I do know…

Nomad’s Log 1

I don’t want to walk this way, this road looks dark and depressing. The realization of walking a path inevitably leading me to a future without him; a reality where he and I are not together; an actual physical place that is a consummation of unknown factors, the frequent appearance of unidentified individuals taking the place of close knit yet broken relationships it’s like getting rid of one of your favorite pairs of shoes…

There is No Jesus in Judging Others

I, Tory Renee Spring refuse to be bitter about anything.

I, Tory Renee Spring refuse to judge and be critical of others.

From time to time I have to remind myself to wear a positive, kind attitude, because looking at others through a critical lens is child’s play.

Without thinking, I can attack or shade someone’s character, pointing out their mistakes, especially if it is a person I am not particularly fond of. It is easy for me to measure a person by my measuring stick of righteousness, but how much stronger and sweeter of a human being can I be when I humble myself and recognize the fault in my own stars. I will never comprehend the measure of someone else’s pain or drink the brininess of their cup. How can I then judge someone for a dish God prepared and served only for them?

It’s His Unfailing Love

To satisfy means to be filled, to be full of gratification. When I woke up this morning, I was in a far better mood than I had been this entire week; it was not because I figured out the secret formula to alleviating stress or discovered the antidote of depression and maintaining a consistent, successful life. No. It was a simple Zoom chat with friends the night before that elevated my spirit, reinvigorating my desire to seek God more diligently and the beauty of admitting “my life is not together.”

Do I dare to hope?

I don’t know what to tell you. A lot of us are waiting—waiting on our knees. Staying with our hands pressed together, speaking heartfelt, teary-eyed prayers to God and using our last essence. I am waiting and tired and depressed. I want to say this is possibly rock bottom, but I want to be careful with my verbiage.
